One-day national seminar on “The Role of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in...

 

CHANDIGARH- March 25, 2011: The department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University
(PU)  is organising one-day national seminar on “The Role of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in
History” in the Golden Jubilee Hall, PU campus on Wednesday, 30th March to commemorate
the 300 year Sarhind Victory of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur,  
    The seminar will be inaugurated by the Lt. Governor of Pondicherry, Dr. Iqbal Singh.
Prof J.S. Grewal, well-known historian and former Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev
University, Amritsar will deliver the keynote address.  Prof R.C. Sobti,
Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University present introductory remarks and Dr. Jaspal Singh,
Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala would preside over the function.  
    Dr Jaspal Kaur Kaang, Chairperson, department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, PU informed
that Baba ji Jatinder Pal Singh Sodhi, Gaddi-Nashin, Dera Baba Banda Singh Bahadur would
also grace the function by blessing the delegates.  Many more dignitaries would join the
deliberations of the seminar.  She also expressed her satisfaction over the issue that
the department has edited a journal entitled ‘Punjab Journal of Sikh Studies’ which will
be released on the day of the seminar.  The great effort has been done to make the
journal interdisciplinary which also has been allotted the ISSN No.   She also added
that department is very thankful to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. R.C. Sobti who has
inspired and also granted funds to publish the interdisciplinary journal.
