	 The First Autumn School for Training and Research inPharmaceutical Sciences under UGC Networking Resource Centre on “Newer Paradigms in
 Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics” was inaugurated at the University Institute of
 Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), UGC Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS), Panjab
 University today.
 Dr Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Professor at UIPS, Dean-Alumni Relations of Panjab
 University, and Coordinator of the Autumn School welcomed the resource persons and
 participants, and briefed about the objectives and the schedule of the Autumn
 School. “Twenty mid-level faculty members, representing 10 different states of India
 with teaching experience ranging between 5 and 18 years, have been selected on merit,
 and are attending the training school. Twenty seven distinguished scientists from
 pharmaceutical industry, Clinical Research Organizations, academia and research
 organizations, drawn from various nooks and corners of the country, will be training
 these faculty participants on emerging trends in Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics
 during the one-week long deliberations.” Prof Bhoop added.
 Speaking on the occasion, Dr K C Jindal, President FDC Ltd., talked on,” Industry-
 Institute Partnership in fostering pharmaceutical research: Rigours and Vigours”. He
 emphasized the need to understand each partner for bringing about tangible outcomes.
 The academics require funding and patenting support, while the industry require
 adherence to the confidentiality.
 Dr J K Paliwal, Director, BV Patel PERD Center, highlighted the importance,
 methodology and regulatory requirements of conducting the bioequivalence studies on
 generic drug products and obtaining the Biowaivers for decreasing improving the
 economics in terms of time, effort and money.
 
 Dr Shivprakash Rathnam, CEO and MD, Synchron Research Private Ltd., accentuated the
 ardent need to improve the bioavailability of most drugs, especially in the light of
 80% of water-insoluble drugs being introduced in the market due to involvement of
 combinatorial approaches.
 Professor Harkishan Singh, Emeritus Professor UIPS, gave a brief account of the
 evolution of pharmaceutics so far, and stressed upon its holistic development beyond
 the traditional borders.
 Professor Karan Vasisht, Chairman and Dean of UIPS, apprised the audience about the
 UGC Networking Resource Center.
 The whole ceremony was compeered by Dr Indu Pal Kaur, Joint Coordinator of the Autumn
 School.
