International Honour for PU Professor:
 
Prof Manju Jaidka of the Department of English, Panjab University, has been elected the Executive Director of IASA, the International Association of American Studies, which is the only world-wide, independent, non-governmental association for Americanists
 
This announcement was made at the IASA conference held last week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Other appointments announced include that of the President and the Vice-President of the association: Profs Giorgio Mariani of Rome and Manuel Broncano of Spain, respectively.
 
Furthering the international exchange of ideas and information among scholars from all nations and various disciplines who study and teach America regionally, hemispherically, nationally, and transnationally, IASA is registered in The Netherlands as a non-profit, international, educational organization with members in more than forty countries around the world. It organizes international conferences every two years. The next conference, to be held in Poland in 2013, will be co-chaired by Prof Jaidka and Prof PaweÅ‚ Jedrzejko of the University of Silesia.
 
Manju Jaidka, who has recently resumed duties in PU after a year's sabbatical, is a recipient of several international awards, including two Rockefeller fellowships, a Fulbright, and visiting fellowships to UK, US and Canada. She has held lecturing and speaking engagements internationally and is on the editorial boards of leading professional journals. 
 
Currently the Chairperson of the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi, which has made a mark as a very active literary body in the city, Prof Jaidka has published extensively and is also the author of of a just published book on Deepa Mehta and a forthcoming novel "Scandal Point" to be brought out by Rupa Publishers shortly.
