A two-day seminar on “History Society and Punjabi inaugurated

 

CHANDIGARH: February 14, 2012: A two-day seminar on “History Society and Punjabi
Novel” inaugurated by Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University at Golden
Jubilee Hall at P.U. Campus here today.   The seminar is being organized by the
Department of Evening Studies, Panjab University in collaboration with ICSSR.  
Professor G.K. Chadha, President, South Asia University, New Delhi was the Chief
Guest.  Dr. Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala and Shri Ramesh
Vinayak, Resident Editor, Hindustan Times, Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour and
Prof. Rana Nayyar, Chairman, Department of English & Cultural Studies, Panjab
University delivered the Keynote Address.  
    In this seminar, in spite of knowing the different literary aspects of the
Novel, importance of Modern Punjabi Literature, different historical, social and
cultural changes was also taken into account.    The Novels written in Punjabi in
Punjab State, as well as the Novels of Punjabi touch written in English, Hindi and
Urdu also considered.    
    In this seminar the research papers were presented by the scholars from the
different disciplines of the different Universities and Colleges.  
In the first session of this Seminar, Dr. I.D. Gour, Associate Professor of History,
Panjab University; Prof. Sukhdev Singh Kherra, G.N.D.U., Amritsar; Professor Nazar
Singh, History Department, Punjabi University, Patiala; Professor Harsimran Singh,
Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra; Dr. Gouri Sharma, Associate Professor of History,
Panjab University were presented their research papers.  Prof. Jagbir Singh, Delhi
University, Delhi and Dr. V.K. Tiwari, Dean Languages, Panjab University chaired the
session.  
In the second session of this seminar in the afternoon, Professor Balkar Singh,
Associate Professor, Punjabi University; Dr. Jaspal Kaur, Assistant Professor, Delhi
University; Dr. Amar Tarsem, Associate Professor, DAV College, Abohar; Professor
Surinder Kumar Devasar, Panjab University also presented their research papers.  Prof.
Sukhdev Singh Khaira, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Prof. Harsimran Singh,
Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra chaired the session.
    Tomorrow, on the 2nd day of this seminar from 9.30 onwards research papers
will be presented by Dr. Gurmukh Singh, Assistant Professor, Punjabi University; Dr.
Surjit Singh, Associate Professor, Punjabi University; Dr. Yograj Angris, Associate
Professor, Panjab University; Dr. Suman Makkar, Associate Professor of Economics,
Panjab University; Professor Rajinder Pal Singh Brar; Professor Dhanwant Kaur, Punjabi
University; Dr. Amardeep, Associate Professor of English, Panjab University; Dr.
Ravinder Singh, Associate Professor, Dayal Singh College, Delhi; Dr. Rajesh Sharma,
Associate Professor of English, Punjabi University; Dr. Neeraj Jain, Associate
Professor of Hindi, Panjab University; Dr. Rihana Parveen, Associate Professor of
Urdu, Panjab University and Dr. Sushil Sharma, Associate Professor, University of
Jammu.  
    The Valedictory ceremony of this seminar will be held on February 15 at 3.30
p.m.  Professor Bhupinder Brar, Dean University Instruction, Panjab University will be
the Chief Guest.  Professor Sucha Singh Gill, Director General CRRID, Chandigarh will
preside over.  Dr. Mukesh Kumar Arora, Head, Department of Hindi, SCD Govt. College,
Ludhiana and Fellow and Syndic, Panjab University will be the Guest of Honour on this
occasion and Professor B.S. Ghuman, Dean Faculty of Arts, Panjab University will
deliver the Valedictory Address, Professor Indu Tewari and Professor Gurpal Singh,
Chairperson, Department of Evening Studies and Seminar Coordinator respectively
informed.
