Overwhelming Response to International Conference on Frontiers of Nanotechnology

International Conference on Frontiers in Nanoscience,
Nanotechnology and Their Applications (NanoSciTech 2012) was inaugurated at the Panjab
University Campus here today.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof R C Sobti, in his welcome address to the delegates,
expressed that the promising domain of nanotechnology is not novel to India, as the
people here have been using it since archival times, as per the information imbibed in
Holy scriptures.
Dr Anupama Sharma, Organizing Secretary, NanoSciTech 2012, while introducing the
distinguished delegates to the audience, revealed that NanoSciTech 2012 will be
witnessing around 40 international scientists including 18 resource persons, 90
lectures and over 350 poster presentations by over 600 registered participants.
Prof A K Sood, IISc, Bangalore, in his Keynote lecture, apprised the audience of the
recent developments in the field of nano-biosciences. Citing diverse instances from
his research experience, Prof Sood explicitly talked on graphene-based transistors,
carbon nanotubes in drug delivery, complexation of dendrimers and siRNA, and resistive
switching devices.
Delivering his presidential address, the Chief-Guest, Prof Ashok Misra, former
Director, IIT Bombay, and Chairman Intellectual Ventures, Bangalore, explicitly
described the evolution of nanotechnology in institutes and research centers in India.
He spelled out the basis on which this area of research propagates and helps the
mankind.
In the plenary sessions, Prof Mandip Sachdeva, Florida A&M University, USA, discussed
the application of nanoparticles in theranostics (i.e., therapeutics and diagnosis) of
lung cancer. Prof Luc Avrous, France, shared his experience on nano-biocomposites: a
novel generation of hybrid systems.
Prof Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Convener, NanoSciTech 2012, proposed the Vote of Thanks to
the resource persons, patrons, sponsors and delegates.
Post-lunch, three parallel sessions were organized where, the eminent speakers like
Prof Sanjay Garg (Australia), Prof Muller (Venezuela), Prof Christopher (Switzerland),
Dr Gilberto (UK), Prof Hassan (Malaysia), and Prof Singhal (Canada) from overseas, and
Dr Neeraj Kumar (NIPER), Prof Bhuvanesh Gupta (IIT, Delhi), Prof Praasad (NCL, Pune),
Prof Tyagi (Ferozepur), Prof Jassal (IIT, Delhi), Prof Chaturvedi (IISER, Pune), Dr
Ratna (Thane), Dr Paul (CMERI, Durgapur) from India shared their erudition with the
young researchers.
Also, oral and poster sessions were organized at the Golden Jubilee Hall and the ICSSR
Hall, Panjab University where 195 budding scientists delivered oral lectures and
presented their research work as posters
