Academic collaboration with Indonesian Ambassador

 

CHANDIGARH- April 11, 2012:The Indonesian Ambassador to India, His Excellency Lt.
General Andi M. Ghalib met with Professor R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab
University here today to expedite academic collaboration between the two countries.  
               Indonesia has already signed 33 MoUs with India, one of which is to do
with Education.  “We share a long political history from the Nehruvian era to the
present as also a cultural heritage that goes back to the epics of the Ramayana and
the Mahabharta” said His Excellency Lt. General Ghalib.  Citing instances of
collaboration wherein leaders of both countries had been instrumental in charting the
journey from Colonialism to Independence, the Ambassador hoped that greater
interaction with Panjab University would also facilitate the exchange of ideas.  
Professor Sobti endorsed his views by saying that, “We look forward to rejuvenating
old ties in a new form”. 
              Dr. Son Kuswadi, the Indonesian Education Attache, who was part of the
Ambassador’s contingent, expressed his admiration for Panjab University, which he
termed as one of the oldest universities in India, yet, also one of the most
progressive going by the number of innovative courses offered by it.  
                The Indonesian Ambassador extended an invitation, on behalf of his
Government, to Professor Sobti to visit his country on the 7th of May 2012 and share
his vast academic and administrative experience in a specially convened Seminar.
                Professor Sobti gave an overview of the University to the Hon’ble
Ambassador and his contingent.  Senior functionaries of the University, the Registrar,
Professor A.K. Bhandari; the Dean International Students, Professor Gurmail Singh and
the Dean College Development Council, Professor Naval Kishore were also present on the
occasion.
