23 days programme under NMMS concluded

 
Twenty three days long Programme for disadvantaged and excluded girl child under
“National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme” (NMMS) concluded today at the ICSSR
Complex, Panjab University, Chandigarh. 83 girls participated in the workshop, which
was
organized by the Carmel Convent School in collaboration with the ICSSR North-Western
Regional Centre, P.U from June 3 to 26. 
Introducing about the NMMS Workshop, it’s Coordinator Mrs.  Harpreet Malvai said that
girls from weaker section of society and those who have excelled in examination were
chosen for the workshop. It was rare opportunity of grooming the girl child for future
development. The areas covered in the workshop ranged from mathematics to social
science.
Director, ICSSR, Professor Surinder Kler Shukla, in her presidential remarks
congratulated the school management for this ‘wonderful task’. It will chisel the
ability of girls to face competition, get empowered and become independent. The mental
ability test, which is not part of any educational curricula, is actually the basic of
all competitive examination, she added. This NMSS Workshop has prepared the young girls
for better future. The NMMS was started by the Government of India in the year 2008.
UT Director Public Instruction, Mr. Upkar Singh said that this endeavour is ‘out of the
box’.  This is an opportunity, which is probably not available to rich and well-to-do.
The girls, he said, were trained to become good citizens and good human beings as a
result in the workshop, he added.
Principal, Carmel Convent School, Sister Maria Swati A.C presented the mementos.  She
thanked the guests and said that the girl students were given a rigorous training
for 22
– 23 days during which they were subjected to mental ability tests to widen the vision
for their future examination testing capability.
Professor Surinder Kler Shukla, Director, ICSSR and Mr. Upkar Singh, Director, Public
Instruction and Sister Maria Swati A.C. distributed the Certificates to the
participants
of NMSS Workshop.
