National Pharmacy Teacher Training Programme Commences at PU...

 

One week faculty training school, “From Drug Discovery to Drug Delivery: Contemporary Trends” commenced today at University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) at Panjab University (PU) Campus.

The training school is being conducted for Pharmaceutical teachers drawn across the country under the initiative of UGC Networking Resource Centre (NRC) under Coordinatorship of Prof Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Chairman (UIPS) and Joint Coordinatorship of Dean Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof Kanwaljit Chopra.

As many as 20 young faculty members have been selected for training hailing from various Colleges/Universities, representing 8 different states of India. The training school would continue till March 21 at Golden Jubilee Seminar Hall of PU.

In his welcome Address, Chairperson, UIPS, Programme Coordinator, UGC-NRC & Course Coordinator of this Training School, Prof Bhupinder Singh Bhoop focused on the accomplishments of UGC-NRC programme and the significance of this one week course.

        Managing Director & CEO, Indswift Ltd, Dr G Munjal was the Guest of Honor, who delivered the Keynote Address on “From Drug Discovery to Drug Delivery: Indian versus Global Scenario”. In his keynote address, he highlighted the importance of finding innovative research solutions to the currently prevailing diseased states like cancer, diabetes and heart diseases, through meaningful public- private- partnership and industry- institute relationships.

In his address, Dean, National Institute for Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Mohali, Prof A. K. Chakraborti accentuated the need to address the issues of overcoming drug development failure rates on account of Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic fronts.

Dean, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Joint Course Coordinator of this training school, Prof Kanwaljit Chopra briefed the audience about the course contents.

Subsequent to the inaugural function, a Hands-on workshop was organized for the participants on Pharmacodynamic Modelling in the afternoon session.

UIPS is the first and the only Pharmacy Institute in the country selected by MHRD for creating UGC Networking Resource Centre to promote research and academics in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The present training school is aimed to provide fundamental knowledge and know-how on the contemporary issues on wide-ranging sojourn from drug discovery to drug delivery to the participants hailing from diverse disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences. A series of experiential lectures, coupled with wet and dry laboratory demonstrations of advanced techniques, have been planned. The key topics of the programme would include Molecular modelling approaches, Molecular biology techniques, In silico pharmacokinetic simulations, Pharmacodynamic screening tools, PK/PD modelling, Innovative drug delivery, Quality by Design (QbD) issues and Pharmacovigilance monitoring, etc.
