The department of Biotechnology, Panjab
University (PU) organised the national symposium on “Frontiers in
Biotechnology” on the campus today which was attended by nearly 200
delegates from the PU and its various affiliated colleges.
Prof A.S. Ahluwalia, dean science faculty inaugurated the event and
and Prof B.S. Brar, Dean University Instruction, PU presided over. The
keynote address was delivered by Dr P.S. Ahuja, Director IHBT, Palampur.
He talked on the improvements of various crops including rice, wheat
and maize. He described the use of Himalayan herbal floral extracts for
making perfumes of international standards. He further advised the students to be
focused and innovative. Among other noted speakers were Dr Jaswant Singh, IIM,
Jammu; Dr U.D. Gupta, JALMA, Agra; Dr Pramod Rath, JNU, New Delhi; Dr Charu Sharma,
IMTECH, Chandigarh; Dr Ranjana Pathania, IIT, Roorkee and Dr Dinesh Kumar,
NBAGR, Karnal. In all it was knowledge enriching experience for the
students, informed Dr. Jagtar Singh, organising secretary of the
symposium.
