Chandigarh, 24 February: School of Communication Studies saw many enthusiastic students participating in the 3rd Chandigarh Social Science Congress being organized by PU on 24th and 25th February. The day started with an inspirational discussion , titled ‘Gyan Ki Oar’, on The PU Community Radio Station, 91.2 Jyotirgamya on the theme of the Congress which was ‘Interface between Knowledge and Society’. The ‘Radio Charcha’ discussed the benefits of education in one’s life and threw light on the concept of literacy and knowledge. The main point that was discussed on the show was that though people acquire educational degrees by attending various schools, colleges and universities and get certificate of literacy, still somewhere, the knowledge is lacking. Assortments of suggestions were made by the students as to where the problem lies and how to solve it. Priya Markanda, JRF scholar from the School presented her research paper on the theme, ‘Interface between Knowledge and Society’. Various new and useful suggestions were made by researcher/s, which was followed by a debate on the topic ‘Education System’. Students spoke for and against the topic and provided a peep into our education system, highlighting its pros and cons and what needs to be done. Lastly, students of the department presented a street play ‘Hum to Aveyin Aveyin Lut Gaye’ on the same theme. It also illustrated the problems that we have in our education system and how everyone is suffering due to it. Good examples based on the scenario were presented here. One of them being, though people are educated, but still whenever they fall sick, instead of going to a doctor and get themselves checked, they contact any chemist and take any medicine that is proposed by him. Such small issues should be kept in mind and we as responsible citizens, should try to do what all we have learned in our schools and colleges. The function ended on a happy note with students giving out a very important suggestion, “One should always read newspapers and never stop reading them” as it is a medium of continued education which will keep them knowledgeable all their lives. { General} |
