PU’s first Job Fair kickstarts impressively

 

 Package upto Rs 10 lakh offered to students on the first day of the fair

The first ever centralised mega Job Fair of the Panjab University
(PU), catering to students of the University as well as those from its regional
centers started impressively at the University Institute of Engineering and Technology
on the Sector 25 (South) campus today.  The fair will continue for three days till
March 6.
        The first day of the event saw an overwhelming response with over 1400
students registering to participate. Some of the big players offering jobs were ICICI,
Ford (Bhagat Group), HCL, VIOM Networks, IBM, INTARVO, Religare, A.K. Vidyamandir,
SBMC, Practice BUZZ, TK20, Revelcom, WNS, Aspire, Cue Blocks, Agile Media, Talwar and
Talwar, Virka solutions and many more. The companies that participated in the fair
offered packages ranging from Rs. 1.5 lakhs per annum to Rs. 3.5 lakhs per annum to
the PU students. A.K. Vidyamandir offered upto Rs.10 lakhs per annum to deserving
candidates.  Different companies had different criteria for selection. While some
picked out candidates on the basis of a written test, others held interviews.  Some
companies like VIOM Networks and ICICI took online computer tests. The executives of
the various companies were happy with the arrangements of the fair and the quality of
the candidates who appeared for job selections. They applauded the efforts of the
Panjab University which made it easier for the companies to find talent to hire. Mr
Archit Kapoor from ICICI, who interviewed about 45 students, said, “The hospitality
and arrangement of the fair were really good. Most of the candidates we interviewed
had great communication skills and knowledge. The overall response was overwhelming.”
        Ms Parul from VIOM Networks who also appreciated PU’s arrangements and
students skills, knowledge and ability said, “Job Fair is an excellent initiative of
the PU to provide good opportunity to talented students.”
        The students too praised the efforts of the Panjab University which made it
easier for them to find jobs. They were able to register online for the fair and that
made the entire process very student friendly. Janamjot from UIAMS said, “This fair
has made it very easy for us to find the jobs what we want”, while Isha said, “The
organizers are putting in great efforts in the event”.
        The Job Fair will continue for two more days which will see even more students
and companies coming in to take part. Organizers of the fair have requested PU
students to come in big numbers on March 5 and 6 to make it a bigger success.
