PU Rose Festival begins from March 11

A three-day ‘Rose Festival’ is being organised on the Panjab
University campus from March 11 to 13.  The festival will be inaugurated by Mr Randeep
Singh Surjewala, Cabinet Minister, Haryana at 9.00 am at the Professor R.C. Paul Rose
Garden on the campus.
The Panjab University’s Professor R.C. Paul Rose Garden is spread over an area
of more than four kanals.  The rose garden has a rich variety of roses – nearly 74.
This year, around 45 new varieties of different shades and colours have been added in
order to enhance the beauty of the garden.  These newly introduced varieties have been
procured from Sappanwali, Rajasthan.  These are the traditional varieties of roses.
Now, the garden has total 119 unique varieties which are hardly grown in and around
tricity.
The garden is being maintained without putting any additional financial burden
on the university exchequer.  It is maintained by Horticulture Section of the Panjab
University through its own resources.  The footpath in this garden is prepared from
the waste material obtained from the land vacated by jhugi dwellers in Sector 25
(South Campus).  The unique standard rose varieties around the footpath add more glory
to the beauty of this garden, Mr Anil Thakur, Sub-Divisional Engineer (Horticulture)
and the organising secretary of the rose festival informed.
The programmes in this festival include – singing competition, mono acting,
quiz, laughter competition and star night by Mr Gurdeep Mehatpuri on March 11.
The programmes in this festival include – Kite flying competition, rangoli,
mime, collage making, slogan writing, face painting, poetic recitation, debate,
