THE DRAMATICS SOCIETY OF THE PANJAB UNIVERSITY REGIONAL CENTRE, LUDHIANA UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF PROFESSOR (DR.) DEEPAK KAPUR, DIRECTOR, PU REGIONAL CENTRE, LUDHIANA SHALL ORGANISE AN ENGLISH PLAY, “THE ROMANCERS” BY EDMOND ROSTAND ON TUESDAY, THE 15TH MARCH, 2011 AT 11 AM IN THE PURC, LUDHIANA AUDITORIUM. DR HARPREET KAUR VOHRA, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN ENGLISH, IS THE COORDINATOR OF THE DRAMATICS SOCIETY AT PURC, LUDHIANA AND THE DIRECTOR OF THE PLAY. ONE OF HIS EARLY PLAYS, THE ROMANCERS, SAW EDMOND ROSTAND [1868-1918] REJECTING THE SORDID REALISM OF THE NATURALIST PLAYS THEN POPULAR, CREATING A LIGHTHEARTED SATIRE ABOUT TWO YOUNG LOVERS IN SEARCH OF ROMANCE AND ADVENTURE WHO DISCOVER THAT ROMANTIC LOVE CAN EXIST WITHOUT THE EXCITEMENT OF DANGER OR OBSTACLES TO OVERCOME. ROSTAND SUBSEQUENTLY INTRODUCED IN HIS PLAYS THE THEME OF TENACIOUS ADHERENCE TO UNATTAINABLE IDEALS THAT BECAME A CHARACTERISTIC OF HIS WORKS. { General} |
