Book released on Global Terrorism

 

 

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Permod Kohli released Dr. Shruti Bedi’s book on Terrorism: Our World and Our Lawstoday in Panjab University. Dr. Kiran Bedi the social activist was the key speaker on the occasion along with Mr. Cheema, Senior adcocate. The function was hosted by the University Institute of Legal Studies, P.U. and Shri G.K. Chatrath. Mr. Chathrath welcomed everyone and recounted his days fighting for India's freedom. 


Justice Permod Kohli released the book and Dr. Shruti Bedi read out excerpts from the book. Dealing at length with the experience of different countries and institutions in dealing with terrorism in different parts of the world, Mr. R.S. Cheema highlighted different issues dealt with in the book.


Dr. Kiran Bedi emphasized on different effects of terrorism faced by her and her family on a personal level in Amritsar. She dealt with the role played by police, politicians and media in Punjab terrorism. She read out different parts of the book which she felt were relevant to terrorism all over the world. She spoke at length as to how the people at large could play an important positive role in combating terrorism. She also recounted her interaction with Kashmiri terrorists in Tihar jail. She called for a review and overhaul of the laws prevailing for effective combat of terrorism. She highlighted the fact that this was the first book of its kind to be written on such a topical issue.
 

Justice Permod Kohli spoke at length on the causes of terrorism. He elaborated on the role of poverty, corruption and lack of democratic institutions in causing terrorism. Prof. Sangita Bhalla, Director, UILS expressed her gratitude to everyone for gracing the occasion.
