A four-week in-service training programme for newly inculcated
College and University teachers was inaugurated in the Academic Staff College, P.U.
Campus here today.  

    Thirty-five participants from various States are participating in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Shelley Walia, Director, Academic Staff College,
P.U. highlighted the theme of the course “Higher Education at the Crossroads: New
Dynamics for Social Responsibilities”.  He motivated the teachers to break the
boundaries of rigid disciplines in order to understand the dynamics of knowledge and
society to take up challenges of the present era.

    Prof. B.S. Ghuman, Syndic, Panjab University and Professor of Public Administration at
P.U. spoke on the significance of investing in the youth of the country on the
educational front so that they become an asset for the country.  He raised some of the
key aspects of higher education sector today such as equity, access and privatization.
