The 47th annual conference of the Institute of Historical
Studies will be organized at the ICSSR Seminar Complex on the Panjab University campus
from October 28 to 30.
To be organised under the aegis of the department of history, the conference
will be inaugurated by Prof. R.C. Sobit, the Panjab University Vice-Chancellor. Mr
Pradeep Mehra, Adviser, Union Territory, Chandigarh will be the Chief Guest.
Professor Emeritus, Parshotam Mehra, an eminent historian will deliver the keynote
address. A book titled “History Perspectives” will also be released on the occasion.
The conference will dwell on diverse issues such as women’s emancipation, agro-
ecological changes, local customs in Punjab, identity of dalit women, Guru Nanak and
Sri Chatanya, role of Khap Panchayats in honour of killings in Haryana, environmental
pollution in north-west India and issues on human rights.
