As the going gets tough, the tough gets going.” This
was indeed proven true in the final rounds of Surana & Surana National Trial
Advocacy Moot Court Competition- 2011 (India North) rounds at the University Institute
of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The hard work and toil of the
students was evident from the level of argumentation and the clarity of style in
presentation of case and it was a matter of pride for the participants of NLU, Jodhpur
and GNLU, Gandhinagar to present their case in the finals.
The final rounds were judged by Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.K. Mittal, Judge-Punjab &
Haryana High Court, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajive Bhalla, Judge-Punjab & Haryana High
Court, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Judge-Punjab & Haryana High Court, Hon’ble
Mr.Justice R.S. Randhawa, Judge-Punjab & Haryana High Court and Mr. G.K Chathrath,
Senior Advocate and Dean Faculty of Law.
Prof. Sangita Bhalla, Director- UILS in her welcome address appreciated the efforts of
the faculty colleagues, university functionaries and student volunteers for making the
moot court competition a success. She said “Such moot court competitions have assumed
contemporary relevance in the larger context of the rising aspirations of the law
students to join the corporate world as well as the mounting expectations of the
people for an effective justice delivery system.”
Dr. Shruti, Teacher-Moot Coordinator, while extending heartfelt gratitude said, “It is
indeed a matter of pride for all the budding lawyers if they are even given a small
hearing by the Hon’ble lordships of the Punjab & Haryana High Court and here they have
spared there valuable time to judge the whole case.”
Hon’ble Mr. Justice M.M Kumar, Acting Chief Justice Punjab& Haryana High Court
presided over the valedictory function as the Chief Guest. Mr. Ravichandran , Head-
Academic initiatives Surana and Surana International Attorneys declared the results.
GNLU, Gandhinangar was adjudged as the best team, NLU, Jodhpur were the runner ups.
Best Memorial was given to team from NLU, Jodhpur and second best memorial to the team
from Dr. RMNLU, Lucknow. Satyam Thareja from NLU, Jodhpur was adjudged as the ‘Best
Student Advocate’ and Kunal Chaturvedi from GNLU, Gandhinagar was adjudged as
the ‘Second Best Student Advocate’. And the team from UIL, PURC, Ludhiana was awarded
with the prestigious ‘Spirit of Surana’ award.
