Panjab University Chandigarh Zone-A Youth and Heritage Festival 2011 inaugurated
CHANDIGARH: 20 October 2011: The Panjab University Chandigarh Zone-A Youth and
Heritage Festival 2011 was inaugurated by Professor R.C. Sobit, Vice-Chancellor,
Panjab University’s Law Auditorium here today. The four-day festival that kick started
today will continue till October 23 and shall have a plethora of events. The
inaugural function began with the rendition of the Panjab University’s anthem which
was followed by the lighting of the lamp. Professor Naval Kishore, Dean College
Development Council; Professor Amrik Singh Ahluwalia, Dean Student Welfare; Professor
Kalpna Mahajan, Dean Student Welfare (Women); Professor Surinder Sharma and Dr. S.M.
Kant were also present at the function.
The Vice chancellor welcomed the students, the principals and teachers of various
institutions taking part in the Youth festival. Laying stress on the importance of
extra curricular activities the Vice-Chancellor said, “unless one is happy and
healthy, one cannot perform well in studies. It is necessary to take a break and get
rejuvenated to perform better academically”. He asked the students to strive for a
healthy competition. He expressed, that for him all participants are winners because
they have exhibited the courage to come forward and perform. The Vice chancellor
wished luck to the participants and the organizers.
The Vice chancellor appreciated the endeavor of Panjab University Student’s Council
working for the welfare of the students and also performing well academically. The
Vice-Chancellor congratulated the P.U Student Council for organizing the festival and
a star night, by Satinder Sartaj, an alumnus and faculty of Panjab University’s Music
Department, who has made his name in the Punjabi music in India as well as abroad.
The competitions in this festival were held at the Law Auditorium, English Auditorium,
Gandhi Bhawan and Fine Arts Department.
The competitions during the day one included Rangoli making, collage making, spot-
photography, poster making and cartooning to name a few.
