CHANDIGARH: 08 November 2011: The Centre for Nuclear Medicine, Panjab University shall
organize 32nd Annual Conference of Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists (IABMS)
on the theme “Phyto-chemicals and Radiations in Health and Disease” from November 11
to 13, 2011 at P.U. Campus. The conference shall be preceded by a one-day workshop on
the theme “Applications of Radioisotopes in Molecular Imaging on Nov 11, 2011. His
Excellency Shri Shivraj V Patil Hon’ble Governor of Punjab shall inaugurate the
function at 5 p.m. in the English Auditorium on Nov 11, 2011. Phytochemicals are
associated with the prevention and/or treatment of various diseases including some
forms of cancer, diabetes and heart diseases. The 32nd IABMS conference is dedicated
to understand in depth the molecular mechanisms involved during the actions of these
phytochemicals in blocking the initiation of diseases and containing the progression
of the diseases.  One day workshop on Nov 11 is focused on the applications of
radionuclides in molecular imaging.The continual increase in the advancement of
molecular imaging facilitates the development of new imaging protocols by using newly
developed radiopharmaceuticals which are specific for imaging target organs. New
modality like Positron emission Tomography (PET) is helpful in the early detection of
cancer as well as in the assessment of response of chemo-therapeutic drugs in
treatment of cancerous cells, Prof D.K Dhawan, Coordinator, Centre for Nuclear
