SCS trains “Chota RJ”
CHANDIGARH: 14 November 2011: On the occasion of Children's Day, School of
Communication Studies, Panjab University, begins the hunt for the "Chota RJ" for
Panjab University's very own community radio 91.2 Jyotirgamaya.
The department takes an initiative to groom kids from the Bapu Dhaam Colony for a
certain period of time. They shall be trained by the students of School of
Communication Studies who have been actively working for the PU community radio. Three
students have already been short-listed out of which the one of them will be announced
as the first ever "Chota RJ" of PU community radio.
This is an endeavor to encourage the efforts of the Yuvsatta, an NGO that takes care
of education and vocational training of these kids. “This is an excellent opportunity
for these kids to learn new skills by undergoing first hand training. It is extremely
important to expose these kids to such avenues in order to inspire and motivate them
to make use of their talents in the best possible way”, expressed, Mr. Lakshmi Kant
Bhatia, Project Coordinator, Yuvsatta, for “Project Bridge”, supported by Oxyfam,
India.
As many as 15 kids came to the department today and had an interactive session with
the faculty and the students of the department. “I am extremely happy to be here and
very excited to undergo the training sessions. I would like to impart the same to
other kids as well who could not be a part of this programme”, said, Ruchi, one of the
three shortlisted kids. “I am happy with the students’ initiative and I hope that
students of SCS continue to train Chota RJs in Jyotirgamaya year after year. My best
wishes to the three shortlisted candidates and I hope they excel in all their
endeavors”, said, Dr. Archana R. Singh, Chairperson of School of Communication
Studies.
The students from the Bapu Dhaam Colony with the support of Yuvsatta, also take out a
newspaper called "Jugnu". School of Communication Studies now aims at providing these
students an opportunity of being heard!
