To commemorate Year 2011 as “International Year of Chemistry”, Panjab University is organizing an International Conference on Innovations
in Chemistry for Sustainable Development from December 01-03, 2011 at the Department
of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh. At the conference, eminent scientists
working at the forefront of chemistry from USA, Italy and distinguished institutes of
India like BARC, DRDO, NIPER Mohali, IIT Kanpur, IARI Delhi and NCL Pune will present
their research findings in the three-day conference. More than 500 delegates from
India and abroad are expected to participate in the conference. Dr. D.K.Tuli, GM IOCL,
will deliver the keynote address. The International Union of Pure and Applied
Chemistry (IUPAC) and UNESCO have declared the Year 2011 as “International Year of
Chemistry (IYC 2011)”. IUPAC and UNESCO strongly believe that it is time to celebrate
the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to the well-being of humankind.
IYC 2011 aims to increase the public appreciation of chemistry in meeting world needs,
to increase the interest of young people in chemistry, and to generate enthusiasm for
the creative future of chemistry.
Professor R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University will preside, Professor S.K.
Mehta, Chairman, department of Chemistry and Convener of the Conference informed.
