Highlights
1.     Faculty Appointments

•     Under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) = 134
•     Direct Appointments = 56

2.     Computerization

•     Controller based, seamless Wi Fi system to be installed in the entire academic
area in Sector 14 and hostels from a Rs.40 lacs UGC grant

•     The integrated software application (on PU intranet) can be accessed by PU
employees. Instant information about budget, finance, establishment, accounts,
academics, etc is available to the authorities.

•     The University’s digitization involves computerization of the Accounts and
Establishment branch – Profile, Salary, Provident Fund, Service Records, Bills,
achievements etc are available online

•     We also have the alumni portal, placements, academics, hostels – all these are
automatically linked with the students’ data

•     Modules like Stores, Diary/Dispatch, Legal Cell, Inquiry, DCDC, Estate, DPR,
Guest House etc ensure both transparency and accountability

•     The DMCs for the entrance tests are now available online resulting in a huge
saving of money and time. In the next session the OMR scanning of entrance test
applications will be replaced with online capture of data

•     Roll No’s are now available online which can be downloaded, therefore avoiding
delay

•     About 55, 000 Degrees were awarded with coloured photographs of the students

3.     Facilities for Students

•     More than 166 students were provided scholarships under the category of
sports, need based assistance, need cum merit and handicapped. Fee exemption with free
hostel facility was granted to the most deserving students belonging to the
economically weaker sections of the society. This was over and above the freeship
seats available to such students. Rent free accommodation is given to blind and poor
students as well as international sports players. Performance - based Scholarships
would  be awarded to each player.

•     There was no fee enhancement for the year 2011

•     Cases of more than 45 orphan students of the University are under
consideration for free education/ reimbursement

•     Additional capacity of 100 students has been provided in Boys Hostel No 8,
Girls Hostel No. 9 will be completed by July 2012

•     Facilities like coffee machines, washing machines with dryers, additional
electric points, computer rooms, gymnasium equipment have been provided or upgraded.

•     Pedestrian paths have been relaid and an ATM installed at the Students’ centre.

4.     Construction

•     Work in progress- Para Medical Block-I, Block–II, Hundred Bed Hospital, Boys
Hostel No. 8, Girls Hostel No.  9, Emerging Area Science and Technology:  
Block–II,  Block-III,  Block–VI, University Institute of Applied Management Science
(UIAMS ) Building, Community Centre, Guest House Extension Hall, Shooting Range,  
Building for Social Science,  Extension of Youth Hostel and College Bhawan, University
Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism (UIHMT), Sports Hostel for Women,  Guru Teg
Bahadur Bhawan Building, Shopping Centre.

•     New Construction Projects to be started - Alumni House, T2, T3, T4 Houses,
Multipurpose Auditorium, Hostel for International Students & Research Fellows and
Construction for Hockey Astroturf ground.

5.     Academic Issues

•     Semester system has been introduced in all PG courses.

•     The University is in the process of purchasing metal detectors for ruling out
usage of unfair means during the examinations.

•     Many University Departments have received grants from the UGC, ICMR, DST, etc
under various schemes for strengthening infrastructure, conducting research etc. which
are valid till the year 2016. The total amount is to the tune of over Rs. 18 crore

•     University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) has received a grant of
Rs.2 crore for conducting training courses. Panjab University has received a grant of
Rs 3.55 crore for conducting research in nanotechnology and Rs. 1.85 crore  for
conducting research on gender studies with particular reference to the cultural
fixation of ‘Honour’ under UGC’s CPEPA program.

•     Individual faculty members have been granted projects to the tune of  over
Rs.1 crore.

6. Colleges
•     The cases of teachers who have done PhD , M.Phil before 11.07.2009 based upon
the UGC regulation 2009 have been decided

•     Affiliation Process has been made time bound to be completed by March 31 every
year; compliance of conditions, if any, to be completed by May 31 every year. A
booklet containing guidelines, rules, regulations will be brought out.

•     All data pertaining to affiliated colleges would be made online.

•     Colleges Branch will be fully automated.
