SYMPOSIUM IN MATHEMATICS held on Feb.7 & 8, 2012
CHANDIGARH: February 08, 2012: The Chandigarh Symposium in Mathematics was inaugurated
by Professor I.B.S. Passi, the Emeritus Professor, Department of Mathematics, Panjab
University and the Honorary Professor, IISER, Mohali and presided over by Padam
Bhushan Professor R. P. Bambah, Ex-Vice-Chancellor and Professor Emeritus, Department
of Mathematics, Panjab University, on February 7th, 2012 at 9.00a.m. in the Seminar
Room of the Department of Mathematics, Panjab University.  

    The inaugural ceremony was followed by two academic sessions.  In the first
academic session, Professor Dipendra Prasad from School of Mathematics, TIFR, Mumbai
gave a talk.  This was followed by a talk by a distinguished mathematician -Prof. A.
K. Nandkumaran of IISc, Bangalore.  During the second academic session, Prof. M. D.
Sharma from Kurukshera University, Prof. Vinod Kumar of JCDM College of Engg., Sirsa
and Prof. Amitabha Tripathi of IIT, Delhi delivered talks.One research student of the
Department viz.  Ms. Megha Goyal also made presentation on the topic of her research
during this session.

    The Symposium continued for the second day i.e. February 8, 2012 with two more
academic sessions in which eminent mathematicians - Professor Dalip Patil of IISc,
Bangalore; Prof. Pankaj Gupta of University of Delhi and  Dr. Manju Khan of IIT Ropar
delivered talks.  Two faculty members from the Department of Mathematics, Panjab
University namely Dr. Dinesh Khurana and Dr. Anuj Sharma, also delivered talks on the
topic of their research.  Two of the research students of the Department - Mr. Suraj
Goyal and Ms. Pooja Grover also made presentations on the topic of their research on
that day.

The Symposium was greatly attended by faculty, research scholars and
college/University teachers.

The Symposium was convened by Professor S.K.Tomar, Chairperson, Department of
Mathematics, Panjab University.
