Panjab University is organizing an International
Conference on “Frontiers in Nanoscience, Nanotechnology and their Applications
(NanoSciTech – 2012)” from February 15 – 18, 2012 on its salubrious Campus.
NanoSciTech-2012 would provide a platform not only for academic encounters to offer
knowledge and knowhow in the domain, but also for exploring newer vistas in
Nanoscience and Nanotechnology for collaborative ventures, experiential learning and
plausible technological breakthroughs. First of its kind being held in this part of
the country under the dynamic stewardship of the Panjab University Vice-Chancellor,
Prof R C Sobti, , this International Conference on Nanoscience is intended to be a
boon to the development of Nanotechnology per se. A wide-ranging research community
has been invited to this event so as to offer them knowledge and knowhow in the domain
of emerging trends and innovations in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, which is being
foreseen as the next big technological revolution cutting across various disciplines.
The three-day Conference will be inaugurated on 16th Feb. by Ashok Misra, Chairman,
Intellectual Ventures, and the Keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Ajay K Sood,
a legendry nanotechnologist from Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore.
Distinguished personalities, who are confirmed to partake from overseas, speak and
share their pearls of wisdom with the scientists here during the said Conference
include Prof Luc Averous, (France), Prof Mandip Sachdeva, (USA), Prof Frederic
Guittard, (France), Prof Asim Mitra (USA), Prof Sanjay Garg, (Australia), Dr Gilberto
Brambilla, (UK), Prof Azman Hassan, (Malaysia), Dr P K Singhal, (Canada), Dr Ranjana
Mitra (USA), Prof Alejandro Muller (Venezula), Dr Plummer Christopher, (Switzerland)
and Dr Mekonnen Abebe, (Ethiopia).
Nearly 400 delegates (including over 50 from abroad) have been registered for the
Conference to delve upon the remarkable advancements in science, from theory to
practical applications of nano-sized particles. And over 300 oral and poster
presentation sessions are being organized during this mega meet in order to provide a
platform for the budding scientists to show-case their innovations.
A Pre-Conference workshop has also been organized on 15th February tomorrow to furnish
specialized training in myriad nanoscale technologies to the young researchers.
Besides witnessing lectures by eminent scientists from all over the globe, the Meet
will also provide hands-on experience of novel techniques in synthesis, formulation
and applications of nanotechnology. An exhibition is also being held to provide
avenues to the exhibitors to showcase their products and processes.
The Panjab University has made seminal contribution in this multi-disciplinary domain
of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Very recently, the University Grants Commission
(UGC), New Delhi, has granted the University with a Centre for Excellence in
Nanomaterials, Nanoparticles and Nanocomposites, and their Applications,
Prof. Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Convener and Dr. Anupama Sharma, Organizing Secretary of
NanoSciTech–2012 informed.
