Center of Advanced Study in Geography, PU, to deliberate Issues in Sustainability
CHANDIGARH: February 21, 2012: Agricultural development, urbanization and
unprecedented population growth has depleted natural resources, degraded the
environment and put an intolerable strain on the resources in northwest India. The
path of sustainability has been identified as a way-out of the morass in which human
kind finds itself. Issues in sustainability have enormous relevance in Northwest India
because of serious ecological problems in the region arising from industrial and
agricultural development
Over 100 eminent scholars shall be deliberating upon this vital issue at the National
Seminar on “Northwest India: Issues in Sustainability” being organized by Center of
Advanced Study in Geography from February 23-24, 2012.
It will be inaugurated by Padamshree Professor RC Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab
University at 10.00 a.m. at ICSSR, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Professor Emeritus G.S. Gosal will deliver the presidential address. Professor Harjit
Singh of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi will deliver the keynote address. Shri
Vivek Atray, Additional Transport Commissioner, Haryana will be the guest of honor at
the occasion.
Karanjot Kaur Brar, Professor and Chairperson and Dr Navneet Kaur are the conveners of
this seminar.
