CHANDIGARH: 01 March 2012: A two-day workshop on “Parallel computing using HPCC” is
being organized on March 2 and 3, 2012 at Department of Physics, Panjab University.
High Performance Computing Centre (HPCC) is the advanced computing facility at the
Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The use of multi-core processors
combined with centralization is an emerging direction. The improvement in performance
gained by the use of a multi-core processor depends very much on the software
algorithms used and their implementation. In particular, possible gains are limited by
the fraction of the software that can be parallelized to run on multiple cores
simultaneously.
Prof. B.S. Brar, Dean University Instruction Panjab University will inaugurate this
workshop on 2nd March, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. Prof. C. S. Aulakh, Chairman Department of
Physics, shall preside over the function. There are many invited speakers of repute
from various national institutes and universities. In all, around 50 delegates are
participating in the workshop. The workshop focuses on various aspects of parallel
computing in Sciences using the HPCC facilities. This workshop is being sponsored by
CAS, Department of Physics.
