CHANDIGARH-March 5, 2012: The Panjab University Career Counselling & Guidance Cell
established under UGC XI Plan is organizing a 3-day training program (5-7 March, 2012)
on life skills and will focus on 10 core skills that World Health Organization has
listed - Self-awareness, Interpersonal relations, Communication, Critical thinking,
Problem solving, Creative thinking, Dealing with emotions, Coping with stress,
Decision-making and Empathy. The 3-day training programme will be conducted by invited
Life Skills training experts Ms. Sunitha Ranjan and
Ms. Divya Santhanam who will help the students through modules aiming at Effective
Communication, Inter personal Relationships, Thinking Skills, Creative Thinking,
Problem Solving, Decision Making, Coping with Emotions and Stress, Life Skills in
Practice for Personality Enhancement and Positive Strokes.
The Inaugural Function of Life Skills Training was held today in the Seminar Hall of
ICSSR North Western Regional Centre, P.U. Campus. The day also served as the formal
inauguration of Yuvothhan, the student committee of the cell, the first meaning
elevation of Youth. The idea for the evolution of this committee stressed that it
provides a good platform for students to represent their career developmental needs in
their respective departments and fields. It facilitates the process of planning and
executing appropriate interventions that will address those needs wherein students
also contribute for the betterment of the student community simultaneously enhancing
their own skills. The committee also serves the purpose of bringing a better or a more
direct connection between the cell and the student community.
Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University was the chief guest on this
occasion. He told that the CG&CC should facilitate the students in realisation of
their potential, enhance their skills and help them grow.
Prof. A.S. Ahluwalia, Dean Student Welfare, Panjab University was the Guest of Honour
on the occasion and spoke on the uniqueness of the programme. The duo told that a true
feedback of their learning be sent across to them at the end of the training.
Prof. S.K. Chadhha - Director, Central Placement Cell, the keynote speaker in the
inaugural opined that such an activity will also help them in their placement. Oinam
Anuradha, Career Counsellor PU and Founder and Chairperson of Yuvothhan gave the
introductory speech and congratulated for taking the initiative to make such a venture
towards the enhancement of skills of the students.
Yuvothhan members were seen actively co-ordinating and contributing in the inaugural
programme as anchors, stage co-ordinators, addressing welcome speech, vote of thanks
etc. Indeed the skills of these students were being employed and enhanced, Ms. Oinam
