Int’l Conference on bio-psychosocial perspectives enters second day

 

 On the second day of the International Conference
on “Enhancing Human Potential: Bio-Psycho-social Perspectives” several experts
presented papers on a variety of topics.  
The Conference is being held on the Panjab University campus under the aegis of Asian
Association of Applied Psychology organised by the PU.
Dr Chanchal Narang presented a paper on the “Role of Communication Skill in Enhancing
Human Potential” touching the importance of both linguistic and non-verbal skill.  The
second paper of the day was presented by Punam Midha and Sonia Malik jointly
on “Emotional Intelligence among Professionals: A Cross sectional study.” The speakers
touched on role of gender and age on emotional intelligence of professionals. They
stressed that emotional quotient is more important then intelligence quotient.
The next paper entitled “The Enhancing Quality of Work Life in Technical Institutions”
was presented by Prof. S.P. Bedi about the correlation of gender and occupational
stress suggesting measures to cope up with the stress. Dr. Nandita Singh presented a
paper on “Optimising Potential: Enhancing Emotional Intelligence in Teachers. She
summed up the factors optimising potential very succinctly. The next paper of the day
was presented by Mr. Narinder Singh who through his paper on “Relationship between
Age, Job Stress and Job satisfaction” stressed that job stresses are inversely
proportional to job satisfaction. Dr. Priyanka Sharma spoke on: “Enhancing
Competencies to become employable on Intervention by higher education.” Dr. Rajesh
Kumar in his paper on “Mental Health of School Going Children” was an eye-opener on
the fact that in our male-oriented society, girls (aging between 14 and 16) felt much
more insecure than boys.
Bringing in a very refreshing visual treat to the audience the next speaker
Miss Anu H. Gupta spoke on, “ Clothing as a tool Enhance Personality.” She asserted
that appropriate clothes not only improved the personality but also proficiency. Dr.
Darshan Lal, presented a paper on “Effect o Hopelessness and Employment status of
women on religiosity and satisfactory with life”. Prof. S.P. Bedi and Gaurav Sachdeva
presented a paper on “Developing soft skills Among Prospective Engineers”. The paper
talked about the exposure of prospective engineers to 35 hours of emotional
intelligence enhancing situations. Dr. Monika Bedi and Renuka Mehra presented paper
on “Emotional Intelligence as predictor of job satisfaction and organisational
commitment in Indian service sector”. Dr Vasudha Sharma presented paper on “Happiness
among Indian Adolescents”.
    Dr L. S. Minhas and Vaneeta Virmani presented paper on “Use of Art Therapy for
promoting positive Psychological qualities”. In his paper L.M. Minhas explained the
distinctiveness of art therapy for achieving positive goals of human development and
for utilising techniques of art therapy for the cultivation and realisation of
positive psychological qualities of human mind, like creativity, spirituality etc.
Dr Supreet Kaur in her paper outlined how institutes of higher learning can become
centres of Intellectual capital. Universities are centres of life long learning and
should go out of the routine of research to providing more dynamic education in the
field and encourage skill buildings.
Nishi Sharma gave an in-depth analysis of HRM practices in Indian Banks and discussed
the challenges faced by Indian public and private sector banks in the era of
globalization and liberalization and about the challenges faced by employees in these
sectors.
Shivantika Sharad, speaking on Optimizing Human Potential in Educational Setting
issues and challenges stressed and examined teacher-student and parent-child
relationships and explored how quest for becoming true authentic and whole is
situated. She underlined healthy relationship are those which  give us opportunities
to develop our inner being to be authentic.
Inderpreet Kaur, talked at length on Enhancing Quality of work life and Emotional
Quotient explained main foundation of emotional quotient includes self-awareness,
optimism and empathy, which many develop early in life. It is important to keep our
emotions in check for excellent interrelationship skills.
In her paper titled, “Developing Positivity and Creativity for Optimal Human
Functioning, Neena Shwhney, highlighted an important key to success in achieving,
one’s full human potential is positivity i.e. quality of being confident, optimistic
and cooperative.
