CHANDIGARH- May 24, 2012: Dr. Kirpal Singh, eminent historian and Project Director,
Sikh source and editing of Historical Granth (at Chandigarh) delivered a lecture on
the “Historical Facts about Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji” the fifths Guru of Sikh.
The lecture war organized by the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies  at P.U.,
Campus here today. . It formed the part of the series of Extension Lectures launched
by the department. Dr. Kirpal Singh brought into focus some new facts about the causes
behind the martyrdom of Guru and recordings made by different quarters. He laid bare
the fact that it was actually Khusro the rebel prince who approached Guru Arjan Dev
for shelter and food after he was defeated in the battle field. though the Empror
Jahangir was mis-informed that Guru had visted Khusro and blessed him as a rebel.
Present on the occasion was Dr. Jitender Mohan, Professor Emeritus of Panjab
University and Prof. B.S. Ghuman, Dean Arts Faculty of Panjab University, landed the
efforts being made by Dr. Jaspal Kaur Kaang the chairperson of the Department of Guru
Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University in introducing multifarious and innovative
programmes in the department. Dr. Kaang welcomed the renowned speaker, other
dignitaries teachers and research scholars of different departments and thanked the
audience in general. At the end of occasion she gave out the message that the
Martyrdom of the Guru is unparalleled in this world, and it teaches us how we can
conquer and understand the self to face any eventuality while fighting for the cause
of righteousness.
