CHANDIGARH - June 29, 2012: The term of the present Vice-Chancellor of Panjab
University, Professor R.C. Sobti is expiring on July 22, 2012.  The Hon’ble
Vice-President of India/Chancellor of the Panjab University had on 9 February 2012
constituted an Expert Committee with Justice (Retd.) Leila Seth as Convenor and Dr. P.
Rama Rao and Ambassador I.S. Chadha as Members, to draw up a panel of three names
suitable for the post of Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University from amongst the potential
candidates.  The Expert Committee submitted a panel of three names for the consideration
of the Hon’ble Vice-President of India/Chancellor of the Panjab University on 28 June
2012.  
               In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 10 of the Panjab
University Act, VII of 1947, the Chancellor of Panjab University, Chandigarh has
appointed Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, Senior Professor, School of Natural Sciences, Tata
Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai as the Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University
for a term of tree years with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office as
the Vice-Chancellor.
