The Panjab University is organising an “Alumni Meet” at the
university level in a big way to honour its alumni who graduated or post-graduated
before 1970.
The event going to be held on February 19 and 20 will be first of its kind
ever organised at the university level in which many unknown alumni who are serving
Indian society and mankind abroad in various capacities will have an opportunity to
visit their alma mater and share their nostalgic memories and experiences in a
personal interaction with the students and faculty of Panjab University.
The University Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.C. Sobti, the Coordinator of the event
assigned various tasks and duties to senior faculty members today to launch his dream
event, which will eventually become an annual feature after the first one. The two-
day meet will witness a variety of events like lectures and discourses by alumni and
cultural programmes. On the first day, the individual departments will hold programes
where alumni of their departments will share their success stories with the students.
This will be followed by cultural programmes and a dinner hosted for the alumni. The
second day will have the meet at the university level where alumni who have reached to
high echelons and have made notable mark in society will be felicitated. Prof. Ajaib
Singh, Director, Centre for Life Long Learning and Prof. Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Dean
Alumni Relations, P.U. will be the organising secretaries of the Alumni meet.
Panjab University can boast of numerous high ranking alumni who have made
tangible mark in various domains of society, Nation, and the world. Currently,
Primine Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and five of his cabinet colleagues are the alumni
members of Panjab University.
