United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) celebrates 27th September
as International World Tourism Day. This day celebrates the end of tourist
season in one hemisphere and commencement of tourist season in the other. This
year UNWTO has declared ‘Tourism and Sustainable Energy: An Agenda for
Sustainable Development’ as the theme of world tourism day. To
commemorate World Tourism Day 2012, University Institute of Hotel
Management and Tourism (UIHMT), Panjab University, Chandigarh is
organizing a series of activities and competitions during the week. These
diverse activities include expert talk, special lecture, various
competitions and blood donation camp.
Expert talk, will be delivered by noted historian Dr. Tapti Roy (Vice
Chancellor, Indus International University, Una) on the topic ‘Use and
Misuse of History in Tourism’. This talk will be delivered in ICSSR
Seminar Hall, Panjab University at 11:30 AM on 25th September 2012.
On 26th September, the eve of World Tourism Day, Prof. R.K. Kohli, a noted
environment scientist and Dean University Instructions, Panjab University
will deliver a special lecture. This lecture will be organized in the
University Business School Auditorium.
On 27th September many competitions are on cards. These will include
fashion show (Dresses of India); Solo dance competition (Dances of India);
Culinary competition (Cuisines of India); Poster Making (theme: Tourism
and Sustainable Energy); Rangoli Making (Theme: Indian Culture); Photo
competition (theme: Tourism Celebrating Diversity); and Tourism &
Hospitality Quiz.
On 28th September UIHMT students are going to organize a Blood Donation
Camp in the department.
These competitions are open for all students of Panjab University and
