CHANDIGARH November 27, 2012: A Seminar on “Enhancing Employability and Industry
Expectations” was organized by the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences
and Central Placement Cell. Eminent personalities like A.S Bhatia (VP HR Volvo
Eicher), Harshvir Singh (MD Drish Infotech) and P.J Singh (CEO Tynor India) were present
to interact with the students. Prof. Sanjiv Kumar Sharma, Director UIAMS, Prof. S.K
Chadha, Director Central Placement Cell, Dr. Amandeep Singh Marwaha, Training and
Placement Officer, UIAMS and Dr. Manu Sharma, Training and Placement Officer, UIET were
also present. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Amandeep Singh Marwaha. The seminar
was graced with the presence of Prof. Arun K. Grover, Vice-Chancellor PU, who headed the
interaction and answered the questions put up by the students. He stressed on the point
that “by academics and industry working together, the industry gets needed research,
universities get funding, society gets new products and technology. It's a balancing act
in which everyone has a shot at winning.”
The seminar was attended by students from both UIAMS and UIET.
Mr. A.S Bhatia spoke to the students about entrepreneurship and the essentials that are
required by the students to follow their heart.
Mr. Harshvir Singh made the students aware about the basics of interview skills, body
language and what is required to make an impression and sail through the interviews.he
highlighted the importance of soft skills by saying “ Besides the technological
understanding, industries today also evaluate personal competencies ranging soft skills,
team building, overall attitude, and values.”
Mr. P.J Singh made the students aware of the industry scenario and the gap that is
present between the academic scenario and the requirements of the industry. He put
forward various problems such as “Universities and educational institutions have been
unable to update their syllabi with respect to the high speed changes taking place in
the world of technology. Hence, the students are not adequately equipped to meet the
current industry requirements and often companies have to incur additional expenses) to
train newly hired employees. Its high time now for us to reboot the India education
system and joint initiatives by the industry and academia will play an important part in
plugging the talent gap in the years to come”.
Prof. S.K Sharma gave the vote of thanks to the guest speakers and also thanked central
placement cell for the kind support and assured the students that these kinds of
initiatives would be organized in the future to aid and abet improvement in the industry
academic interface.
