CHANDIGARH - December 10, 2012: A two-week long training workshop on “Quantitative and
Qualitative Methods & Techniques in Social Science Research” concluded at P.U. Campus
which was organized by the ICSSR North-Western Regional Centre, Chandigarh, from
November 26, 2012. The workshop was attended by the teachers and research scholars from
the various Universities & Colleges of Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal
Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Professor Surinder Kler Shukla, Director of the Regional Centre
welcomed the Panelists Professor B.S. Ghuman, Dean Arts Faculty and Professor M.R.
Khurana from the Department of Economics, P.U. Chandigarh. The Panelists while taking
the questions from the participants analyzed that good contribution of enthusiasm,
energy and refinement for good research is needed. They appreciated the research
reports prepared by the participants in a very short time. They stressed upon the
quality and
inter-disciplinary research.
Professor Shukla thanked the resource persons and participants of the
workshop and said that the feedback received from the participants would help definitely
in the further betterment of the training workshop in future.
The resource persons of the workshop were from various disciplines such as
Geography, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics, Psychology Anthropology,
Business Management, Laws, Ancient Indian History Culture & Archaeology, Sociology, etc.
In valedictory session Professor Surinder Kler Shukla welcomed Shri
Virinder Kapoor, formerly D.G.P. Haryana. She emphasized on the cross cultural and
inter-disciplinary approach in research. She also expressed great satisfaction with the
tremendous response of the scholars to the workshop. She announced that one such
programme will be organized in the Jammu & Kashmir State very shortly.
While delivering the valedictory address Shri Kapoor said that excellence
is moving thing while excellent is a target. He advised the researchers to be fair in
their
approach while collecting the data as the knowledge is power which is used by the
generations to come. He beautifully clarified that idea is a midwife of change. In
global village knowledge is increasing with each passing day. The buzzword is
elegance + excellence.
Dr. Emanual Nahar, Course Coordinator, presented overview report of the
Programme and thanked the resource persons and the ICSSR staff. He stated that every
thing was taken care of which was envisaged in the course contents.
Shri P.K. Saini, Deputy Director, ICSSR, thanked Course Coordinator,
resource persons, participants and appreciated the hard work done by the staff of the
ICSSR and wished the participants that this course will be beneficial in their future
research.
