International conference on plants concludes at P.U.
CHANDIGARH: December 18, 2012: The 2nd International Conference of Asian Allelopathy
Society on the topic “Allelopathy: A Multi-faceted Process” concluded in the Department
of Botany with elaborative deliberations on plant–plant interactions and its relevance
in agriculture. It was recommended to explore Allelopathy in plants as a tool for
improvements in yield of the crops by refining agronomic practices.
Prof. A.S. Ahluwalia has been elected as the new President of ‘Asian Allelopathy
Society’ for next 3 years. The other office bearers of the society for new term are
Prof. Ibrahim Alsaadawi, Iraq (Vice-President), Dr. Mohammad Farooq, Pakistan
(Secretary), Prof. R. N. Yadav, India, (Joint Secretary), Prof. Fujii, Japan (Treasurer).
The next conference would be held at Iraq in 2014. Otaka Junnosuke (Japan), Devika
Bajpai (DU, India), Prakarti Yadav (Sagar University, India) and Kuljinder Kaur (Panjab
University, Chandigarh) were given awards for their oral and poster presentation in the
conference.
