The Annual General Body Meeting and Scholarship Award Function of the Panjab University Alumni Association(PUAA) were held on 18th May at 11.30
A.M. in the Golden Jubilee Hall at Panjab University, Chandigarh. The Annual General Body Meeting and Scholarship Award Function was presided over by Professor Arun Kumar Grover,Vice-Chancellor and President PUAA. The Vice-President Shri S. C. Kohli was also present.
Professor Neelam Grover, Dean Alumni Relations and Secretary, PU Alumni Association welcomed the guests and presented the Annual Report. In her report, Prof. Neelam Grover highlighted the various activities and achievements of the Department especially that there has been a steady increase in the PUAA members with an addition of over 300 Life members and 2 Patron members taking the total membership of the Association beyond 5250 members. All the members thoroughly appreciated the endeavor of Department of Alumni Relations. She also informed the House that the next phase of the Alumni Guest House was under construction since August 2012 and as informed by the XEN is likely to be completed by the year end.
Prof. R.K. Gupta,Jt. Secretary-cum-Treasurer, presented the Audited Accounts for the year 2011-12 and Budget estimates for Alumni House for the financial year 2013-14 which were approved by the house.
A total of 66 meritorious students (31 each from the affiliated Colleges and 35 from University Departments) who had topped the respective courses of the Panjab University during the Academic Session 2011-12 were awarded Scholarships, merit certificates and trophies. Stipends to 9 deserving pupils were also awarded on need-cum-merit basis in academics or sports as per the directions of the sponsors.
The Vice-Chancellor initiated a corpus fund for inflation protecting the scholarships/stipends awarded to the students by contributing Rs. 5000/-. Several alumni members also made similar contributions towards this endeavour.
The AGM and Scholarship Award Function ended with a vote of thanks.
