On the Eve of Martydom of Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji, the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh
Studies today organized a Special Lecture on ‘Sikh Concept of Martydom and Guru Arjun
Dev Ji’ at Guru Tegh Bahadur Bhawan P.U. Chandigarh.

While delivering his Lecture, GNDU Prof. Gulzar Singh Kang focused on concept of
Martydom in Sikhism, internal reasons behind Martydom of Guru Arjun Dev Ji and the after
effects of the Martydom of Guru Ji.
 

Speaking on the after effects of martyrdom of Guru Ji, the  noted Scholar said that
strength of Sikhism had started increasing very fastly under the inspiration and
direction of Guru Arjun Dev Ji. Due to the fear and challenges from the emerging Sikh
religion, the Mughals Empire started fearing.  
 

Discussing about the after effects of Guru Arjun Dev Ji Martydom, he expressed that new
Concepts of Miri Piri, ‘Sant Sipahi, Deg Tegh, Chhardi , Khalsa Panth are added in
Sikhisim after Guru Arjun Dev Ji and Sikh Religion emerged as a very Powerful religion
of a Pluralistic Society.
 

Chairperson of the Department Dr. Jaspal Kaur Kaang said  that the Martyrdom of Guru
Arjun Dev JI gives us message today also that we should follow the ideals of Guru Ji as
“Sarbhat da Bhala”, religious tolerance, co-existence and peace in the Society.
 

Dr. Labh Singh Kheeva, Dr. Gurpal Singh Sandhu, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Dr. I.S. Dhillon, Dr.
Davinder Kaur, Dr. Amardeep Kaur and many other participants also attended the lecture.
