Prof. R.C. Sobti honoured with award; Dr S.S. Bir, Dr Rakesh Tuli also awarded
Given Prof. Pran Nath Mehra Memorial Trust Award
CHANDIGARH: December 13: Professor R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University was
today honoured with Prof. Pran Nath Mehra Memorial Trust Award to acknowledge his
distinguished contributions in various areas of scientific research and academic
distinctions. An established biotechnologist, Prof. Sobti is a well-known scientist
having done path-breaking research in cancer cell biology.
Prof. R.P. Bambah, a former Vice-Chancellor of the Panjab University and the
trustee of the Prof. Pran Nath Mehra Memorial Trust presented the award to Prof. R.C.
Sobti on behalf of the trust.
Dr. S.S. Bir, Professor Emeritus in Botany, Punjabi University, Patiala who is
a founder head of the Botany department of Punjabi University, Patiala and a renowned
botanist, was also honoured with the award for his excellence in the field of Botany
and distinguished research in cytogenetics.
Dr. Rakesh Tuli, Executive Director, National Agri-Food Biotechnology
Institute was also honoured with the award for his notable contribution in
agricultural research particularly for developing insect resistant genes in plants.
Prof. R.P. Bambah felicitated the recipients of awards and reminisced
distinguished contributions of Prof. Pran Nath Mehra, a noted botanist and his
contemporary. He congratulated the recipients of awards and said the bestowment of
honour upon three esteemed scientists today was an honour to the award itself as it
has been presented to the befitting personalities. Prof. A.S. Ahluwalia, dean,
faculty of science, PU, presented the citations and welcomed the gathering of faculty,
students and other distinguished guests.
