Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has decided to conduct re-examination of paper I, II
and III of M.Sc. Chemistry IVth Semester. The PU authorities have taken serious note of
the issue and have decided to constitute a committee to investigate the whole incident.
A committee is being constituted, which would be asked to submit the report in a time
bound manner. The previous papers conducted earlier have been cancelled. As many as 210
students had appeared in all the M.Sc. (Chemistry) IVth Semester examinations.
The committee will also investigate why a college conducted the examination as per the
first uploaded date sheet and why it did not conduct the examination as per the due date
sheet.
PU Spokesman has regretted the inconvenience caused to the students and added that the
re-examination is being conducted to maintain the sanctity of the examination. The
examination would be conducted as per the new date sheet.
Giving sequence of the events, PU Spokesman said that on May 1, initially a date sheet
for the PG Courses was uploaded on the University website. Owing to some clashes of
dates, a new date sheet was uploaded and duly declared. One college did not use the due
date sheet which was declared. Rather it used the first date sheet and conducted the
examination as per that schedule. As a consequence, M.Sc. Chemistry IVth Semester
examinations which were to be conducted on May 22, 27 and June 4 were conducted on May
21, May 25 and June 3 in that college. PU detected this incident when the sealed packets
of answer sheets were opened in Secrecy Branch on June 3. Prior to this, no information
or complaint was received in that regard.
New examinations for the Chemistry Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III M.Sc. Chemistry IVth
Semester would now be conducted on July 2, July 5 and July 8 respectively.
