Department of Physics, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh in coordination with the
Chandigarh Chapter of Indian Physics Association is organizing the DAE CV Raman lecture
for the year 2013 on August 7.
PU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Arun K. Grover would deliver the lecture, being organized on
the topic of “S.S. Bhatnagar, C.V. Raman, Homi Bhabha and Research in Physics at Lahore
and Chandigarh” at the Physics Department Auditorium on August 7, 2013 at 3:00 pm. Prof.
Grover is also an alumnus of the Physics Department, who went on to the renowned Tata
Institute of Fundamental Research at Mumbai, where he distinguished himself as one of
the foremost experimental physicists in India.
The topic of the lecture has special significance in the current year 2013 as the
Physics department is completing 25 successful years as a Centre for Advanced study, a
scheme of the UGC to give incentive to well performing University Departments in the
country. This year also happened to be the 125th birth anniversary year of Sir
Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, the Indian Physics Nobel laureate, who received the
Physics prize for in 1930 for his work on the scattering of light and the discovery of
the famous Raman Effect.
