Panjab University (PU)’s University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), today conducted
an Orientation Programme for the first year students of B.A/B.Com.LL.B (Hons.) 5 years
Integrated Course at the institute.
Director (Academics), Chandigarh Judicial Academy Prof. Veer Singh and PU Vice
Chancellor, Prof. Arun Kumar Grover were the Guest of Honour. They congratulated the new
entrants of the institute and inspired them to prepare themselves for the avenues that
lie ahead of them, as they enter the legal profession.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Veer Singh apprised the students of the transformation
that the legal profession has undergone and gave them a glimpse of the opportunities
that would come their way provided they equip themselves to meet the challenges of the
profession. He encouraged the students to “engage with and understand the fundamentals
of diverse subjects of study, particularly human psychology.” Additionally, he
emphasized on the need for budding legal professionals “to stay focused, be curious and
imbibe cutting edge knowledge of the legal practices, become self reliant and confident
and work exhaustively on their communication skills.”
PU VC Prof. Grover welcomed the students to the institute and urged them to not confine
themselves to the activities and training of their institute. Instead he advised them to
make the most of their opportunity of being a part of a very large and vibrant
university set up. He motivated them to “be professional and engage in a series of
vibrant internships during their five years at the program.”
Later, Faculty members and senior students of the institute also delivered orientation
lectures, in which they gave a brief overview of the nature, structure and composition
of the various academic and extra-curricular/cultural activities that they would be
engaging in during their pursuit of the five year program.
