PU to host “International Conference on “Interdisciplinary Areas with Chemical Sciences”
(ICIACS- 2013)
    Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh will host a three day “International Conference on
Interdisciplinary Areas with Chemical Sciences” (ICIACS-2013) from October 30 to
November 1, 2013.
    Prof. D.D. Sarma from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, will be the Chief
Guest and PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Arun K. Grover will initiate the proceedings of the
international conference.
    This major international conference is being organised by the Department of Chemistry
of PU, in association with Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali. As
many as 500 delegates and eminent scientists from India, USA, France, and China are
expected to participate in the conference. About 300 scholars will be presenting their
research work during poster sessions and the best posters will be awarded.
    The conference will be featuring discussions on diverse fields of chemical sciences
including nanotechnology, material science, pharmaceutical chemistry, biotechnology, and
other allied areas.
    Prof. M. P. Pileni, a world renowned scientist from Université Pierre et Marie Curie,
France, would deliver the plenary lecture on “Nano and Supra Crystals: A real challenge
for the future” during the inaugural session at the Law auditorium, PU on October 30.
    The scientific sessions would include seven keynote and 52 invited lectures by the
distinguished scientists from India and abroad. This event will provide a platform for
intellectual exchange between students, research scholars and faculty. A very eminent
scientist and Director, National Chemical Laboratory, (NCL) Pune Dr. S. Pal will share
his research on “Metal Clusters and Metal-Organic Frameworks: Scope for Catalysis and
Gas Storage Materials”. Prof. S. Bhattacharya from IISc. (Bangalore), Prof. A. Mugweru
from Rowan University (USA), Prof.  Z.C. Dong from Hefei University (China), Prof. A.K.
Ganguli from INST (Mohali), Prof. K.N. Ganesh from IISER (Pune) and many scientists of
international repute will be discussing their findings in the interdisciplinary areas
with Chemical Sciences.
    Prof. N. Sathyamurthy from IISER, Mohali, will deliver a keynote lecture on “Stacking
and spreading interactions in molecular material” in the concluding session.
    Chairman of Department of Chemistry & ICIACS 2013, Prof. S.K. Mehta emphasized that the
international conference will advance our understanding of cross-cutting
Interdisciplinary Areas of chemical sciences. Dr. G.R. Chaudhary from the Department of
Chemistry, PU, and Dr. Priyanka from Institute of Nano Science and Technology
‎‎‎‎‎‎(INST)‎‎‎‎‎‎ would be the conveners of the three day mega event.
