The Department of Geography, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh and Centre for
Indo-Canadian Studies & Global Development Institute, University of the Fraser Valley,
Abbotsford, Canada today organized their third Public Engagement Activity on Research
Project “Sustainable Settlements in India” at ICSSR, PU.

The activity was attended by teachers and research scholars from various departments of
the university and guests from CICS India-Chapter, Sector 32, Chandigarh. Prof Dhian
Kaur and Prof. Krishna Mohan from India and Prof Garry Fehr and Prof Satwinder Bains
from UFV, Canada are the project coordinators.
 

At the Public Engagement Activity, Prof Krishna Mohan welcomed the guests and Prof Dhian
Kaur introduced the project and the event to the audience.
 

The main highlight of the activity was presentation by the two student interns, Mr Utpal
Kumar and Mr Khushvir Saini, who had visited UFV, Canada from September 1 to December
30, 2013. The students made detailed presentation and shared their experiences in depth
and apprised the audience about the lessons learnt during their internship. They
informed the audience about the course on Political Ecology undertaken by them and
compared the education system, evaluation methods, cultural practices, sustainability
plans and regional development strategies between India and Canada.
 

The entire internship was funded by Canadian International Development Agency.
The audience showed very keen interest in the presentation and participated in the
discussions overwhelmingly. In the end, the Chairperson of Geography Department proposed
a vote of thanks.
