PU Job Fair from March 4

 

Press Conference held on campus: details announced
CHANDIGARH: December 21: The Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.C. Sobti
launched the official website of “Job Fair-2011” by clicking the link at a press
conference held on the university campus here today.   Prof. Sobti informed
mediapersons about the details of the Job Fair and about how the students of the
university were going to be benefitted in a big way in the matter of their gainful
employment in various sectors of industry, business and other professions.  The Vice-
Chancellor said the Job Fair to be launched from March 4 to 6, 2011 will provide
opportunity to the prospective employers as well as students passed out from the
university to have an open interaction to discuss the employability potentials and
suitabilities required to meet the job requirements.  The employers would pick up
students suitable for jobs right on the spot.  
    Prof. Sobti alongwith Prof. Bhupinder Brar, Dean University Instructions, and
Prof. Naval Kishore, Dean Students Welfare in the presence of G.S. Aulakh, President,
Panjab University Campus Students Council held the press conference.  Experts from the
University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), University Business School
(UBS), University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET), Department
of Computer Science and Technology (DCSA) and University Institute of Pharmaceutical
Sciences (UIPS) besides the University’s Placement Officer were present at the press
conference.
    The Vice-Chancellor informed mediapersons that Panjab University is one of the
oldest Universities in India and was established in 1882 at Lahore (now in Pakistan).
University campus is spread over an area of 550 acres in sector 14 and 25 in the city
of
Chandigarh with regional centres in Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Muktsar and
Kauni. Panjab University has been ranked very high by many national and
international surveys. Panjab University is going to hold official “JOB
FAIR 2011” from March 4 to 6, 2011 for it’s students passing out
in 2011.
In this event companies can visit PU and recruit PU
students. About 10000 PU students are going to pass-out in 2011. To handle
data-base of such a large number of students’ power of “Information
Technology” would be used. Students of UIET (University Institute of
Engineering and Technology) have made a web-portal wherein students from
all the 75 departments of PU, 15 Centers/Chairs and regional centers will
be able to upload their resumes (Ph. D details, post graduation details,
graduation marks, 12th marks, 10th marks, achievements, awards etc). Link
of this portal is available at www.pu.ac.in (web-site of PU). On this
web-portal companies who wish to visit PU for placements can post their
job-notifications. There is one on-line “Job Notification Form” wherein
companies can post their company profile, package offered, eligibility
criterion, place of posting, whether written test or/and group discussion
or/and personal interview would be conducted, their contact details etc.
Time slots to companies in the PU JOB FAIR 2011 would be given by
Coordinator of PU JOB FAIR 2011. List of students short listed by a
particular company according to their eligibility-criterion and venue of
PPT/written test/interview would appear on the web-portal of fair.
Pre-placement talks of the companies would be held in Law Auditorium,
English Auditorium, Mathematics Auditorium and Chemical Engineering Auditorium.
Written tests would be conducted in UIET, UBS, UICET and DCSA. Personal
interviews would be conducted in UIET, UBS, UICET and DCSA. Thereafter
results would be posted on the PU JOB FAIR 2011 web-portal. Companies can
give the joining offer-letters to students through coordinator of fair or
can post the offer letters to coordinator of fair, Dr Manu Sharma, Reader in UIET, PU

Answering questions, Prof. Sobti informed mediapersons that Infosys took 239 students
this year in a placement drive hosted at the UIET.  Out of this number 171 were from
UIET, 41 from SGGPURC, 15 from DCSA and 12 from UICET.  Tech Mahindra took 28 PU
students in placement drive hosted at UIET.  Out of this 18 were from UIET and UICET,
9 from SGGPURC and one from DCSA.  Students have also got jobs in companies such as
L&T, Volvo-Eicher, United breweries, Grail research, Evalueserve, Talwar & Talwar
Consultants etc.  
Prof. Sobti said that the UIET started placement activity with Indian Army which short-
listed eighty five students for SSB.  Approximately, 80 per cent students of UIET have
already got jobs in hand.  More companies like Dalkia, Birlasoft, HCL comnet, Ambuja
cement, Minda group, Nippon. Cinda Constructions etc are expected to visit UIET in
very near future.  It is expected that some students will get two jobs before they
pass out.  
Vice-Chancellor Padamshree Prof R.C. Sobti is the Chief-Patron of
this fair. Entire “Panjab University Campus Students Council” (PUCSC) and
University teachers from Arts, Science, Management and Engineering are in
