Prime Minister to honour Prof. R.C. Sobti with Gold Medal for lifetime achievement in
science and technology
CHANDIGARH: December 21: The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will present a Gold
Medal to Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University to honour him for his
significant contribution to the development of science and technology in the country
at the 98th Indian Science Congress session to be held at Chennai on January 3, 2011.
A communication received here today by Prof. Sobti from Prof. K.C. Pandey,
General President of the Indian Science Congress Association, Kolkata says, “You have
played key role in the development of Science and Technology, and considering your
contributions and achievements, the 98th Indian Science Congress will be honouring you
with General President’s Gold Medal….” Congratulating Prof. Sobti who richly
deserved the award, the Association General President said, “The Association has
always admired the tenor of Indian scientists – who brave against various odds and
still shine as a luminary and set examples for the future generations”. The Congress
will be held at S.R.M. University, Chennai.
Prof. Sobti is one of the rare Indian Scientists with international
recognition. He has already been honoured with a large number of National and
International awards, medals and other honours to acknowledge his multifarious
contributions to exceptional scientific research and academic excellence. Padma
Shree is one of the rarest awards conferred upon him by the Government of India, among
a long string of honours to his credit.
