DR DEEPAK KAPUR, DIRECTOR, PU REGIONAL CENTRE, LUDHIANA WELCOMED THE CHIEF
GUEST AND OTHER DIGNITARIES. DR DEPAK KAPUR IN HIS WELCOME ADDRESS
HIGHLIGHTED THE MENACE OF DRUGS IN INDIA (AND THE STATE OF PUNJAB IN
PARTICULAR) AND ITS HARMFUL EFFECT ON THE SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL
LIFE. HE EMPHASISED THE NECESSITY OF IMMEDIATE MEASURES TO CURB THIS
MENACE AS INDIA HAS EMERGED NOT ONLY AS A MAJOR TRANSIT STATE BUT ALSO AS
A CULTIVATOR AND PRODUCER OF ILLICIT DRUGS.
DR HARNEK SINGH HIGHLIGHTED THE SOCIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF THE DRUG MENACE.
DR SS GILL AND DR NAVKIRAN MAHAJAN EXAMINED THE MEDICAL AND LEGAL ASPECTS
OF DRUG MENACE ON OUR SOCIETY. SHRI D R BHATTI LOOKED AT THE CHALLENGES
THAT HAVE TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION BY THE POLICE TO TACKLE THIS
PROBLEM, WHEREAS SHRI S P BANGAR LOOKED AT THE ROLE OF THE JUDICIARY AND
THE CHALLENGES THEREIN. THE KEYNOTE ADDRESS WAS GIVEN BY MS AMAN A CHEEMA
OF THE UIL, PU REGIONAL CENTRE, LUDHIANA.
THIS WORKSHOP HAD TWO TECHNICAL SESSIONS AND WAS WELL ATTENDED BY LAWYERS,
ACADEMICIANS, DOCTORS, REGULATORY AUTHORITIES, BESIDES STUDENTS OF LAW.
THE VALEDICTORY FUNCTION SAW A HIGHLY THOUGHT PROVOKING SPEECH BY SHRI
S.P. BANGAR, THE DISTRICT AND SESSION JUDGE OF LUDHIANA.
