Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh celebrated the Republic Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at the University campus. PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Arun K. Grover unfurled the national flag at the Parade Ground. It was followed by the inspection of the Guard of Honour comprising the contingents of Panjab University Security Staff, Ankur School and Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Mandir, Ratwara Sahib. While addressing the gathering, Prof Grover paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters. He recalled various challenges that University was facing when he joined the University as Vice Chancellor. He also referred to various recent initiatives and number of achievements. Underlining the importance of the Day for the University, PU VC Prof. Grover said, “The transition from East Panjab University to Panjab University happened on the first Republic Day, January 26, 1950.” On this occasion, two PU employees namely Senior Technician, Department of Physics Mr. Subhash Chand and Peon, Department of Mathematics Mr. Vijay Negi were felicitated with commendation certificate and memento in recognition of their distinguished services. Colourful cultural program enthralled the audience. The students of Music Department, Panjab University presented patriotic songs and the NSS students presented a short Skit ‘Panda Baba’, which was highly appreciated. The students of Ankur School and Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Mandir, Sr. Sec. School, Ratwara Sahib spellbound the audience with their cultural performances. { Events, General} |
