“I love this University (PU), I love the Campus; you people (students) are so privileged”, said Chandigarh MP and renowned film personality, Mrs. Kirron Kher at Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University (PU) here today. PU Alumna Mrs. Kirron Kher was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the three days National Theatre Conference. This was her first visit to the Department of Indian Theatre after being elected as the Member of Parliament. Turning nostalgic, Mrs. Kher recalled her student days at PU in the Department of English and the Department of Indian Theatre. She also mentioned the “Rajma Chawal under the tree” and the PU student centre. “You people are so privileged, these are wonderful years; enjoy the life; enjoy the dressing up and going to the student centre; enjoy this time, enjoy the team work, enjoy this moment, enjoy the life completely; because that will give you that solid foundation to move forward in life and to be able to achieve your dreams”, Mrs. Kher said while addressing the students. Mrs. Kher also recalled noted theatre director, novelist and Founder-Director of the Indian Theatre Department, Balwant Gargi and other teachers at the department. She also narrated her selection for the first play at the University. She also recalled the excellent alumni of the Indian Theatre Department, which has created impact on various creative aspects. While presiding over the function, PU Vice Chancellor Prof. A.K. Grover appreciated the efforts of the department in taking initiative to organize such a National level conference. PU Dean University Instructions (DUI), Prof AK Bhandari, PU Registrar, Col. GS Chadha (Retd.), Dean Students Welfare (DSW), Prof Navdeep Goyal, DSW (Woman), Prof Nandita, Convener of the Conference, Dr. Navdeep Kaur and many Professors, PU Fellows also participated in the inaugural function. Many prominent experts including Prof. Radha Vallabh Tripathi (Ex. Vice Chancellor of three Universities- Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Dr. HS Gour University, Dr. Lal Bahadur Shastri Rshtriya Sanskrit Vidya Peeth), Prof. Barat Ratan Bhargav (Ex producer (Hindi) BBC External service London, Ex Dy. Secretary(Drama) Sangeet Natak academy New Delhi and Prof. Anoop Lather( Ex Director Youth & Cultural Affairs Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra) would be attending the conference and share their views during the three day National Conference. Dr. Navdeep Kaur complimented the efforts of students of the department in making this event a success. While welcoming all the dignitaries, Dr. Anoop Lather appreciated the efforts of the department and organizing the National Theatre Conference at such a grand level for the first time in the history of the department.
