The 121st Birth Anniversary of noted scientist and Panjab University (PU) alumnus, Dr Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar was celebrated at Dr. S.S. Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology (SSB UICET), PU Campus here today. On this occasion, Professor, TIFR Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences, Hyderabad Prof Rama Govindarajan and Senior Professor and Centre Director, TIFR Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences, Hyderabad, Prof Sriram Ramaswami delivered oration lecture. Both Prof Rama and Prof Sriram are wife and husband and both have received the distinguished Bhatnagar Award. Eminent Mathematician and former PU Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof. Ram Prakash Bambah, PU VC, Prof Arun Kumar Grover and large number of PU teachers, officers, research scholars and students participated in the function. A brief documentary on the work and life of Prof. S.S. Bhatnagar prepared by the students of Dr. SSBUICET was presented on this occasion. Later, the commemoration evening was also celebrated at S.S. Bhatnagar Hall, which is also known as Boys Hostel No 3. Renowned Scientist Prof Rama Govindarajan gave a brilliant exposition on “how viscosity variation effects luminous turbulent transition”. Prof Sriram Ramaswami delivered an exhaustive talk on “Mass Movements” in nature and its relation with physical fundamentals. Earlier, in his presidential address, PU VC Prof. Grover apprised the audience of immense contributions, vision and achievements of Dr Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar and expressed the need to remind the present generation about the great legacy of Dr. Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar vis-à-vis PU. Prof. Grover also referred that the University has invited large number of Bhatnagar and Infosys Awardees for expository lecture at the campus. Prof. Bambah shared his memories of time spent with Prof. S.S. Bhatnagar in the early 1950’s. Chairperson, Dr. SSB UICET, Prof. Meenakshi Goyal formally welcomed the dignitaries, faculty, staff and students. Coordinator of the Commemoration Day Celebration, Dr. S.K. Kansal expressed his views on the occasion. Coordinator & Academic Nodal Officer TEQIP-II, Prof. Anupama Sharma proposed the vote of thanks.
