Two days National Seminar on “Diversity, Pluralism and Indian Democracy” concluded here today. The National Seminar was organised by Department of Philosophy, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh in collaboration with the Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur City. Welcome address was given by PU, Chairperson, Department of Philosophy, Dr. Shivani Sharma and Dr. Ambuj Sharma from Dev College for Women, Ferozepur City. PU, Department of History, Dr. Surinder Singh (Retd.), Head, Department of Political Science, Delhi University, Delhi, Prof. Ujjwal Kumar Singh, PU, Department of Evening Studies, Prof. Mahesh Sharma and Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, New Delhi Prof. Aditya Nigam presented the papers. Experts discussed that the idea of diversity emerges from diverse set of values. Diversity manifests debates on ethnicity, race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disabilities, socio-economic status, political beliefs, or other ideologies. The concept of diversity also encompasses acceptance and respect. Diversity and pluralism entails recognition of uniqueness and individuality. It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual as well as society. Prof. Akshya Kumar and Lallan Singh Baghel and many students raised questions to the speakers and made some significant observations.
